Rangiora
disc golf course

Opened in July 2026 this 9-hole, Par 3 course starts beside MainPower Stadium, following a course behind the Stadium and MainPower Hockey Turf, with the last 5 baskets located in the trees east of MainPower Cricket Oval.
Everyone can play the course free, while those new to the game are able to hire a set of discs from MainPower Stadium’s reception for $5.

The Rangiora Disc Golf Course features a mix of longer, open-terrain fairways at the start, with shorter more technical holes later on, where players must throw through and around trees and other obstacles.  All holes are Par 3, with a round taking anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on how many players you have in a group and how well everyone can throw a frisbee.

The course was designed and installed by NC Sports staff, with expert input from several local Disc Golf players, and with the backing of WDC, the Ashley-Rangiora Community Board, Canterbury Country Cricket and nine local business sponsors.

Like standard golf, the aim of Disc Golf is to get your disc into the “hole” basket in as few throws as possible.  Players can choose different discs depending on the distance and accuracy needed on each throw, with experienced players able to pick the right disc to curve around obstacles and to counter wind direction.  Players can throw either backhand or forehand, and there are penalties for going out of bounds or on the wrong side of “mandatory” obstacles.
